What is Recovery

Recovery numbers have yet to be established by NMFS in a “recovery planning process”.
A case can be made for recovery of wild spring/summer chinook and summer steelhead returning to the Snake River Basin - annual average runs of 75,000 chinook and 90,000 steelhead over the long-term. Currently they are a long way from those numbers. Also all 52 major populations must be viable (no extinction risk) – none meet viability criteria (abundance, productivity, spatial structure, diversity).
